US scientists have recently completed research that demonstrated that gum health directly impacts on the progression of aetherosclerosis (the narrowing of arteries through the build-up of plaque which can cause heart disease, stroke and death).

Results showed that as gum health improved the progression of aethersclerosis slowed significantly.

Moise Desvarieux, associate Professor of Epidemiology and lead author of the study commented that ‘this is the most direct evidence yet that modifying the periodontal bacterial profile could play a role in preventing or slowing both diseases’.

This all sounds like a great case for taking good care of your teeth and gums and for making sure you visit your dentist and hygienist regularly…see you soon!
