An all round excellent experience. Dr Tergan put me completely at ease and explained what she was doing throughout. The crown looks amazing!
Understanding Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a cap covering your entire tooth, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Think of it as a custom-made protective helmet for your tooth to match your natural teeth perfectly.
Crowns are an excellent solution when a tooth is damaged but its root system remains healthy.
We offer several types of crown materials, each with unique advantages:
- Resin: Offering a natural appearance, this lower-cost option is ideal for front teeth
- Porcelain: Combining strength and aesthetics, porcelain crowns are suitable for any position in the mouth
- Metal: These hardwearing crowns are great for the hardworking back teeth.
Why Dental Crowns at
Oak Lodge Dental Practice
A Natural Part of Your Smile
Every crown we place is custom-made to match your smile. We consider the crown’s colour, texture, size, and shape so it blends in perfectly. Nobody would know it’s not natural.
Keep Bacteria At Bay
Bacteria can enter damaged teeth, causing infections. A crown surrounds the entire visible area of your tooth, creating a protective barrier. Best of all, your replacement crown will not decay.
Made To Last
We will only use the highest-quality, durable materials to produce your bespoke crown. Once in place, your hard wearing crown could last a decade or more.
Built To Enhance Your Bite
Once your tooth is repaired with a custom crown, nothing can stop you from enjoying crunchy or chewy foods. You can fall in love with mealtimes again.
Placing Your Crown
The journey to your new crown typically takes two appointments. During your first visit, we carefully prepare your tooth by removing decay and shaping it to hold the crown securely.
Next, we’ll take detailed impressions of your mouth using advanced digital technology, ensuring your crown fits perfectly and blends seamlessly with your natural teeth. You’ll leave wearing a temporary crown while our trusted lab crafts your permanent restoration.
At your second appointment, we’ll remove the temporary crown and carefully check that your new permanent crown fits perfectly. We meticulously examine the colour, shape, and fit before permanently cementing it. With proper care, your crown can last for many years.
Understanding Dental Bridges
When you’ve lost one or more teeth, a dental bridge can bridge the gap in your smile. A bridge consists of one or more artificial teeth anchored by crowns on the natural teeth on either side of the gap.
Traditional Bridges
Secured by crowns on natural teeth on both sides of the gap
Cantilever Bridges
Supported by a crown on just one side, useful when there’s only one natural tooth available for support
Maryland Bridges
These include a metal or porcelain framework bonded to the backs of adjacent teeth and are typically used for front teeth
Implant-Supported Bridges
Anchored by dental implants rather than natural teeth
The Benefits of Dental Bridges
Smile Stability
A dental bridge does more than just fill a gap in your smile. It helps maintain the natural shape of your face and prevents your remaining teeth from drifting out of position.
Bring Back the Bite
Bridges are perfect for maintaining proper bite alignment and jaw function while restoring your ability to speak and eat normally, helping you regain confidence in your daily activities.
Complete Your Smile
We use natural-looking materials to create bespoke bridges. Every bridge we design, make, and place is tailored to the unique needs of the smile it’s completing. Nothing looks out of place.
For Better Oral Health
Filling the gap in your smile removes a potential haven for bacteria and reduces the risk of gum disease, tooth decay, and infection, which could further harm your oral health.
The Bridge Placement Process
Creating your perfect bridge typically requires two to three appointments. We begin with a thorough consultation to determine the best type of bridge for your situation. Much like the crown process, we prepare the supporting teeth and take precise impressions to ensure your bridge fits perfectly and matches your natural teeth.
Our skilled laboratory technicians then craft your custom bridge. While they work, we’ll fit you with a temporary bridge to protect your prepared teeth and maintain your appearance. Once your permanent bridge is ready, we’ll carefully check the fit, make any necessary adjustments, and bond it securely in place.
